- Launching Party for the Steamer "Merton E. Farr," September 11, 1920 - From 1895-1924, Detroit Publishing Company was one of the world's major image publishers. Its wide-ranging stock of original photographs included scenes from around the globe. Detroit Shipbuilding Company launched the <em>Merton E. Farr</em> in 1920. Workers built the 587-foot-long freighter using surplus materials from a World War I shipbuilding program. The vessel was scrapped in 1970.

- Civilian Conservation Corps Company No. 1614, 1934 - Michigan native Stanley Zaleski (1915-1973) enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in April 1934 when he was 18. The CCC, established in the early years of the Great Depression, enlisted unemployed, single young men to work in America's public lands, forests, and national parks. Zaleski, who helped with reforestation, was stationed with company 1614 at Camp McComb near Munising, Michigan.

Michigan native Stanley Zaleski (1915-1973) enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in April 1934 when he was 18. The CCC, established in the early years of the Great Depression, enlisted unemployed, single young men to work in America's public lands, forests, and national parks. Zaleski, who helped with reforestation, was stationed with company 1614 at Camp McComb near Munising, Michigan.
