We don’t just focus on history. The Henry Ford also has numerous exhibits, collections and resources that provide terrific platforms and tools for teaching and learning about science and technology. Develop your students’ scientific inquiry skills with a visit to The Henry Ford, where they can observe, question, investigate and reflect on the solutions to yesterday’s problems and today’s challenges.

Here they will encounter the choices that past generations faced, the decisions they made and the social implications of those decisions. Students can reflect on the trade-offs associated with past and present scientific, technological and industrial achievements. The sites and stories of a diverse array of inventors, engineers and entrepreneurs offer numerous real-life examples to advance student understanding of the role of science and technology in society.

Heroes of the Sky
EXHIBIT
When your students enter Henry Ford Museum, the first thing they see is a sleek, silvery airplane hanging high above the Museum floor. That’s our 1939 DC-3, the centerpiece of Heroes of the Sky, an exhibit that explores the wild and wooly early days of flight. Downloadable lesson plans and student “pilot logs” offer a variety of ways for this fascinating exhibit to help you meet science, social studies and English language arts content expectations. And, on a practical level, the pilot log gives the students a tangible focus as they explore the exhibit.

Visit our special Heroes of the Sky website at thehenryford.org/exhibits/heroes/home.asp to learn more about the exhibit and access classroom and Museum resources.
