Now in its fifth year, this unique, two-day, family-friendly event promises to bring makers from all over the nation to celebrate their unbridled creativity and resourcefulness. Maker Faire Detroit will be held July 26-27, 2014, from 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

THE 11TH ANNUAL WORLD TOURNAMENT OF HISTORIC BASE BALL RETURNS TO GREENFIELD VILLAGE, AUGUST 10-11
Watch as the “boys of summer” battle it out by the 1867 rules for two days during the 11th Annual World Tournament of Historic Base Ball at Greenfield Village, August 10-11. Just as the Detroit-area hosted the World’s Base Ball Tournament in 1867, Greenfield Village keeps the tradition alive as Village clubs—the Lah-De-Dahs and the Nationals BBC— compete against 14 vintage baseball teams from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio until one is declared champion.

In honor of Rosa Parks’ 100th birthday, The Henry Ford has developed a special educational activity book for children that focuses on social innovation and how the civil rights pioneer took a stand against injustice. Shaped like the real Rosa Parks bus on display inside Henry Ford Museum, “Be an Innovator Like…Rosa Parks,” is geared towards children in grades K-5.

THE HENRY FORD HONORS ROSA PARKS ON 100TH BIRTHDAY WITH NATIONAL DAY OF COURAGE
On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks, a 42-year-old African American woman who worked as a seamstress, inspired a social movement when she refused to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Ala., city bus. That singular act of courage helped spark the Civil Rights Movement and a new era in the American quest for freedom and equality.
